Romania (Rosemarie Benciu – Club Sportiv Riposta București, Amalia Covaliu, Catinca Dumitru, Anastasia Fusea) defeated Spain 45-20 in the last eight, and followed up with a 45-42 win over Italy in the quarterfinals. The semi-finals brought another 45-29 win over Germany by a wide margin. The Romanians thus qualified for the final round of the competition, where they beat France, 45-37, after a final in which our girls were down, but came back, equalized and, from the sixth relay onwards, controlled the battle.
Romania won the gold medal in the women’s sabre event and is the European champion in the women’s sabre event!
